Co-designer and developer of virtual reality equipment including the BOOMÒ family of virtual viewing devices and the Molly™ telepresence camera platform.  Founding client was the Virtual Environment Workstation Project at NASA Ames.

 

1991- present            SPIE Conference Co-Chair

                                    Chair annual conference on "The Engineering Reality of Virtual Reality".  Publish joint proceedings with "Stereoscopic Displays and Applications".

 

1999-2000                   Sonicbox, Inc., Chairman and Co-Founder

                                    Co-inventor of key user interface patents and co-author of initial business plan for internet appliance company.  Technology licensed by Phillips, Creative Labs, and other consumer electronic companies.

 

1998-2000                   Fakespace Systems, Chairman and Co-Founder

Spun-off company to pursue commercialization of projection-based immersive products including the CAVE,  RAVE and Immersive Workbench

 

1985-1988                   Nickolas Agency, Founder

Design engineering consultantancy on variety of projects including novel midi sensitive Cajun accordion for RCA records and robotic speaker positioning system for A&M records.

 

1984-1986                   Bentex, Electronic Group Leader

                                    In charge of engineering team to prototype, build, and prepare for the first volume produced, professional, subsea remote-operated vehicle. Included transferring production to Norway, and supporting first unit in field trials in the Antarctic.

                                    Design, engineering and field support of electronic and mechanical equipment support of the foremost geophysical observatory.
